What is a Ledger in Tally Prime?

In Tally Prime, a Ledger is like a record book for each item/person/expense/income involved in your business.

Every transaction (voucher entry) in Tally must be recorded using ledgers.
Example:

  • You pay rent — use Rent A/c

  • You sell goods — use Sales A/c

  • You buy from supplier — use Purchase A/c

While creating a ledger, you need to fill in:

  1. Open Tally Prime

  2. Go to:
    Gateway of Tally → Create → Ledger
    OR
    Press Alt + G → Type “Create Ledger”

  3. Fill details:

    • Name: (like “Rent A/c”)

    • Under Group: (like Indirect Expenses)

    • GST, Opening Balance (if required)

  4. Press Ctrl + A to save.
